Plain-English summary of the key rules for pet owners.
All dogs and cats must be under control at all times when off your property. Off your property means on a leash or under direct voice/signal command on designated trails.
Violation can result in a citation. The Ogden Police Department Animal Control team enforces this actively, especially during summer months.
All dogs, cats, and ferrets must be licensed with Ogden City. Licensing requires proof of current rabies vaccination. Annual or 3-year licenses are available.
License fees: Dogs $25 (3-year), $10/year (spayed/neutered), $50/year (unaltered). Cats $10 (3-year), $5/year (spayed/neutered), $35/year (unaltered). Senior citizens (60+) receive a 20% discount.
Yes. Ogden has a cat leash law. The city's "at large" definition covers all animals, including cats. Any animal off the owner's premises must be under control by leash or confined within a vehicle.
This applies to all cats in Ogden City limits. Free-roaming cats can be cited and impounded.
Ogden City allows up to 3 licensed dogs per household in standard situations. A third dog may be licensed in limited circumstances approved by the city.
Additional animals may require a special permit. Contact Ogden Animal Control for specific situations.
Owners of dogs classified as 'dangerous' or 'potentially dangerous' must obtain a certificate of registration and meet specific confinement requirements.
Dangerous animals may only be kept confined indoors or in a secure enclosure meeting city specifications. Failure to register is a violation.
Ogden Animal Control operates Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. After-hours emergencies call 911 or the non-emergency line.
Non-emergency reports: Weber Dispatch 801-395-8221. Animal Control office: 801-629-8244. Weber County Animal Shelter handles impoundment.

That depth of local knowledge means your care team doesn't need a GPS to find your trailhead, doesn't get surprised by a closed road in Ogden Canyon, and already knows which vet you'd want called if something came up.
